Industrial music is fucking awsome. Not that it's really that possible to define a lot of things as "industrial" these days, as there are so many other terms used to describe what was once simply referred to as "industrial"; and many splitoff genres have emerged in the thirty or so years "industrial" has been around. Still; electronic music that is loud, heavy, often angry, dark, and fast is something that is really great to listen to when it is done right. We are very lucky to be living in a time when such music is possible.

However, not all "industrial" music sees things this way. "EBM" may be pretty and nice to listen to at times; but it is really draing a lot of life from the "harder" roots of the genre. EBM is generally considered to be industrial music but with out the anger and "cleaner" sounding. It is dance club friendly but unfourtuneatly is so much so that DJ's who become too obsessed with it wind up making "industrial" nights a lot more like generic dance music nights, and this can make going out to clubs a lot less interesting.

"Noise music" takes components of industrial music that have been there all along and accentuates them in a way that is a reaction against the way so much "industrial" music has been moving over the past decade. For a lot of people who have been fed up with cheap VNV imitations, noise music comes as a very welcome relief.

There are a lot of bands starting out today, many of whom would not be classified as "noise" bands in the 100% technically correct sense (that bands like coverter or hypnoskull would), but who incorprate aspects of noise heavily into their acts; and who, along with the powernoise movement, are seeing new and innovative ways to breathe new life into industrial music. Many of these bands are ones you have never heard of, and who will play shows near you that won't be heavily promoted and you probably won't hear about. The sad fact is that industrial-ish music is not very well promoted these days; and while big names from labels like Metropolis can easily fill clubs when they tour; many smaller bands just starting out these days have trouble finding venues to play at, getting radio air time, or building tours.

A lot of this comes from institutional problems built into the music industry. The dominance of large labels; the pressure on artists to write music that will sell more vs music that is more innovative, the pressure on club owners to not book smaller acts at cheaper ticket prices as this will bring in less money to the club; all such things are important factors. However, most music that anyone looking at this website has been very influenced by probably had its roots in a time when it was very difficult for it to get exposure as well. When punk rock started out as a movement it did not make headlines over night, but it started small and grew from their. The same was true of industrial when it took off in the 80s, and labels were apprehensive about promoting it. Still, isolated individuals who would only later become a music "scene" made an effort to secure venues for these bands just starting out; to print records and get them to fans; and to promote shows and new bands through DIY zines and flyers. The whole concept of a musical "movement" involves exactly this! The established music industry won't always take the intinative in promoting something new; it requires people getting off their butts and moving around to get the word out.

In the spirit of punk rock and industrial musical movements; I have created this site to help promote good electronic music bands who are just getting started in the new millenium. Several of these bands are some I know personally, a few more are bands I met through online forums, and the majority are probably just bands I discovered through online resources like myspace. You can help with this project to- by submitting bands you are in or know about to this website if you think what they are doing fits in with the general theme here. Also, I am trying to make this site into something really cool and worth telling other people about, so please get the word out about this site; link it from your page, and tell your friends about it.
